About the Course

Course Description

The IB Music course is designed to prepare students to take the IB Music Exam at the Higher Level. The IB Music program seeks to foster a curiosity and openness to both familiar and unfamiliar musical worlds. Students explore the similarities, differences and links in music from within their own culture and that of others across time and place. This course focuses primarily on Western European and American classical music from the Medieval period through the modern 21st Century. Students reflect and write about music through the elements of music (melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, form, timbre, expression, and style) using academic music vocabulary.

IB Music students must be enrolled concurrently in an advanced ensemble, and will be automatically enrolled in the IB Music advisory class that meets once a week on Wednesdays.
